Lonely Mountain May Games was my first event in a way. It was the first event I went to with the full intent of joining for sure. I date my SCA life from May 1, A.S. XII.
There was a quest that day, and I met Elinor Aurora where she was sitting in a ferny little valley off the meadow, waiting for questers to come and answer her question. I don't remember what it was anymore, but it had something to do with fairy tales or folktales I think.
David and Fran McPherson were there. Their van had broken on the way, and I picked them up on the road above Los Alamos and took them on in to the site. Fran had made a turkey stuffed with whole grapes and I don't know what all.
I played recorder for a while, in sight of that turkey, which was set out with the other food under a little picnic table shelter.
Wilhelm of the Bogs held up a stick with the Maypole ribbons on it because they didn't have anything tall enough for a Maypole, and they danced around Wilhelm and wrapped him all up in wide, brightly-colored ribbons.
Years ago, Mark Lasie of Westminster and I set up a notebook with a page for every month and started taking notes on Outlands history. It wasn't a very efficient way to go, but it was something.
That can be done better here, in public, with links to online documentation of various events and people, and with easy access to adding memories, details and comments.
Louis-Philippe has a wiki, and entries there can be linked here too, and maybe posts from the Outlands-History list. Some of that history, though, is not date-specific.
This blog can be a quick repository of people's memories and trivia concerning specific times and events.
Cut and paste the bad copy, edit it the way you want it, and post that. Go back and delete the one you don't want. A moderator will come by and delete the "this post was deleted" note.
